Our students make a difference in their communities, thanks to a grant from managed by Southern Adventist University. The Assist program sponsors students to spend time on a regular basis. To learn more about the origin of this generous program, and to sign up please go to the PFE/ASSIST program
. The benefits of this program are many, but here are a few ways that it has impacted our students:
1. Many of our students live far from their grandparents and miss the time spent with them. While their senior mentor is not a grandparent, they benefit from their friendship and wisdom.
2. The grant is an important source of financial support for students. This year we hope that the ASSIST program will contribute over $13,000 to student accounts!
3. The senior mentors are delighted to see our students! Our students provide companionship, light housekeeping, and even tech support for their senior mentors.
What is the program like?
Students are matched with seniors who they visit for at least an hour, once a week. After the visit, they log on to the website and fill out a short form to explain what they did that day. On average, it takes less than 5 minutes to fill out t At the end of the month, the money is deposited in their school account. That is all!
